Before
You Send Us E-Mail...
Honestly, we do look forward to
receiving e-mail from those who visit our website! However, since we receive
a certain amount of correspondence that asks for information we can not
provide or advice that we are not qualified to offer, we request that you
take the time to carefully read all of the information below
before you attempt to contact us.
-
Please remember that the One Bite
Fellowship's primary purpose is to share our recovery from food
addiction with male food addicts. Additionally, we are willing to
share experience, strength and hope with friends and family members
of male food addicts. What about women who struggle with food
addiction? We request that women consult other eating
disorder websites, support groups or health care/mental health
professionals that address their concerns.
-
Be very specific when you ask us
questions or request information. General requests like "Help me!" or
incomplete requests like "Send me information" don't give us much to
work with. So please express your request(s) in complete, coherent
sentences.
-
Please use the subject line of
your message.
-
OBF never offers advice
that should ONLY come from a medical or mental heath professional! This
means, among other things, that we never prescribe food plans or offer
any sort of nutritional guidance.
-
We do not claim to have crisis
counseling skills. If you in a crisis situation we urge you to contact a
professional for medical or mental health advice. We've found
that face-to-face contact, rather than online support, is always
best when needing help in a time of crisis.
-
It may take us 48
hours to respond to your e-mail message, so please do not count on for
an "immediate" response. Thanks in advance for being patient!
-
We are not available to assist students who are doing research on
men who struggle with eating disorders.
In case you think that the
information presented above makes us seem "unkind" or "uncaring", rest
assured that nothing could be farther from the truth. We do care
about about the well-being of men who struggle with food addiction!
At the same time, part of our recovery
process involves the establishment and maintenance of a set of clearly
defined, healthy boundaries (boundaries with food as well as boundaries in
all other areas of our life). Therefore we have worked hard at attempting to
recognize both our strengths and limitations. We've found much wisdom in the
saying, "Do few things, but do them well." As addicts we have also found
much wisdom in the admonition that it is our job to "Carry the message, but
not the addict."
Whew! :-)
