What Those “Earth People”
Don’t Understand About Us

Hopefully you long ago gave up your expectation that those “earth people” could get to the point where they actually understand you and your food addiction. We food addicts have a hard enough time understanding ourselves, let alone our addiction, so why expect “normal people” (as if many of them are anywhere close to being “normal”) to understand what makes us behave the way we do when it comes to food, weight and related matters.

What those “earth people” often don’t understand about us is that…

  • Food addiction IS an addiction. It’s just as potentially deadly an addiction as alcoholism and chemical dependency.

  • Food addiction is NOT a moral failing. We aren’t “bad” because of our behavior with food.

  • We don’t overeat because we are “weak willed” – In fact many of us would admit to having the tendency to being “control freaks”, especially when it comes to trying to manage people, places and things that are out of our control. When others think that we are “weak willed” they should try to stop us from overeating – we’ll show them who’s in control!

  • Food addiction doesn’t magically disappear on holidays, birthdays or any other occasions. Therefore it is in our best interest to NOT put our recovery on hold even when others try to convince us that we “should be able” to overeat when THEY want to overeat. Maybe THEY have a control problem too (trying to control us)?

  • We are NOT what we weigh. Our value as a human being has NOTHING whatsoever to do with our body size. Therefore we don’t seek to loose weight in order “to become” something/someone better – we choose to (stated positively) eating a health manner because we deserve to treat ourselves well.

  • We do NOT need them to try to prevent us from overeating. Trying to control us only makes us want to overeat more. And what we put in our mouths really isn’t their business.
