The One Bite Fellowship
Approach to Recovery

One Bite Fellowship believes that no one food plan or exercise plan is appropriate for all men struggling with the dual addiction of overeating and exercise avoidance. Therefore, as a fellowship, we clearly advise our members to avoid offering advice (let alone copies of food plans or exercise plans) to fellow addicts in search of nutritional and exercise information. What works for one addict may be totally inappropriate, counterproductive, or even outright dangerous for another addict to even attempt.

One Bite Fellowship believes that addicts are in NO position to self-prescribe their own or any other addict’s food or exercise plan. When it comes to food and exercise we find ourselves to be “strangely insane”. Therefore we strongly encourage our members to consult with a team of appropriate health care professionals familiar with their nutritional needs and medical history to help them determine how much and what they should be eating and how much and how often they should be exercising.

One Bite Fellowship encourages its member s to seek support from other addicts on a regular basis. We encourage each other to work the food and exercise plans appropriate for each member’s needs, avoiding dictating to fellow addicts what they “should” do in order to recover.

One Bite Fellowship further encourages our members to select a life philosophy – which may include a particular understanding of spirituality – to strengthen their commitment to working on their recovery. Many One Bite Fellowship members have benefited from incorporating the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, as adapted for their own particular addiction, into their life philosophy.

Therefore we believe that our members will benefit from a holistic approach to recovery from their addiction. Our approach to recovery may be expressed in the following equation:

Food Plan +
Exercise Plan +
Support Network +
Recovery-Friendly Life Philosophy =
Recovery Lifestyle.
